John 10:27-30
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
I and my Father are one.
POEM
My sheep know me well, they hear my voice,
And I am familiar with each of their choice.
They follow me closely, without any fear,
For I am their shepherd, always near.
I offer them a gift of eternal life,
A precious treasure, free from strife.
No one can take them away from me,
For their safekeeping, my Father guarantees.
My Father’s love is greater than all,
And He watches over them like a protective wall.
No one can harm them, they are secure,
For my Father’s hand is mighty and pure.
I and my Father are one in the same,
A bond that no enemy can defame.
Together we guide our sheep with care,
For their protection, our love will always share.
So rest your worries, let your fears subside,
For I am with you, your shepherd and guide.
Trust in my love, for it will forever abide,
And keep you safe, in both heart and mind.
DEVOTIONAL
The words of Jesus recorded in John 10:27-30 are some of the most powerful and comforting words in all of Scripture. He says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.” These words are a reminder of the security and assurance we have as believers in Christ.
Jesus uses the metaphor of sheep to describe his followers, and there is a reason for this. Sheep are known for their dependency on their shepherd. They rely on him for guidance, protection, and provision. Likewise, we as believers are dependent on Christ for our spiritual needs. We need him for guidance in our lives, protection from spiritual danger, and provision for our souls.
The beauty of this metaphor is that Jesus not only calls us his sheep, but he also says that he knows us. This means that he is intimately familiar with every aspect of our lives. He knows our thoughts, struggles, and fears. And yet, despite our imperfections, he never abandons us. He is always with us, guiding us along the path of righteousness.
Moreover, Jesus promises to give us eternal life. This is a promise that cannot be broken. Once we put our faith in Christ, we are given the gift of eternal life. This means that our souls will live forever in the presence of God. Death has no hold on us because we have been given eternal life through Christ.
Perhaps the most comforting part of these words is that no one can pluck us out of the hands of Jesus or the Father. This means that our salvation is secure. No matter what happens in this life, nothing can separate us from the love of God. Our salvation is not dependent on our works, our abilities, or our circumstances. It is dependent on the love and grace of God.
When we put our faith in Christ, we are brought into a relationship with him. We become his sheep, and he becomes our shepherd. As we hear his voice and follow him, we are given the assurance of eternal life. We are secure in his hands, and no one can pluck us out. This is a message of hope and comfort that we can cling to in our times of need.
As we reflect on these words of Jesus, we should be reminded of the depth of his love for us. He knows us intimately, and yet he never abandons us. He is always with us, guiding us along the path of righteousness. We should also be reminded of the security and assurance we have in him. Our salvation is secure in his loving hands, and nothing can separate us from his love.
Finally, these words should inspire us to follow Christ faithfully. As his sheep, we are called to hear his voice and follow him wherever he leads. We should trust in his goodness and sovereignty, knowing that he has our best interests at heart. May we always be mindful of the love and security we have in Christ, and may we follow him faithfully all the days of our lives.
