FAITH IN ACTION| YOUR FREE BIBLE DEVOTIONAL FOR MONDAY Brandy N. Morrison, June 12, 2023November 18, 2023 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.” John 14:6-7 DEVOTIONAL In John 14:6-7, Jesus makes a profound statement that has been a cornerstone of Christian theology for centuries. He declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.” These words are some of the most important that Jesus ever spoke, and they reveal a great deal about his nature and purpose. First, Jesus says that he is the way. What does this mean? In the context of John’s Gospel, it means that Jesus is the only way to a relationship with God. He is the means by which we can come to know God and be reconciled to him. This is a radical claim, and it has been controversial throughout history. Some have argued that there are other ways to God, or that Jesus is just one of many spiritual leaders who can lead us to enlightenment. But Jesus himself makes it clear that he is the only way. If we want to know God and experience his love and grace, we must come to him through Jesus. Second, Jesus says that he is the truth. This means that he is the embodiment of all that is true and good in the world. He is the perfect example of what it means to live a life of love, compassion, and service. In a world that is often characterized by deception, violence, and selfishness, Jesus stands as a beacon of hope and light. He shows us the way to live in a way that is true to our deepest values and beliefs. Jesus says that he is the life. This means that he is the source of all true life and vitality in the world. He is the one who gives us the strength and energy we need to live our lives to the fullest. He is the one who gives us the courage to face our fears and overcome our challenges. Without Jesus, we are like dead branches that are cut off from the tree of life. But with him, we are connected to the source of all life and power. Taken together, these three statements reveal the essence of who Jesus is and what he came to do. He came to show us the way to God, to reveal the truth about God and the world, and to give us the life that comes from knowing God. He is not just a spiritual leader or a wise teacher; he is the Son of God, the Messiah, the Savior of the world But Jesus goes even further. He says that if we have seen him, we have seen the Father. This means that he is not just a representative of God, but he is God himself. He is the perfect image of the Father, the exact representation oif his nature and character. To see Jesus is to see God in all his glory and majesty. So what does this mean for us? It means that we have access to the very heart of God through Jesus. It means that we can know God personally and intimately, and experience his love and grace in our lives. It means that we can live our lives with purpose and meaning, knowing that we are connected to the source of all life and power. But it also means that we have a responsibility. If Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, then we must follow him with all our hearts, minds, and souls. We must make him the center of our lives, and live in a way that reflects his love and grace to the world around us. We must share his message of hope and salvation with others, so that they too can come to know the Father through him. Jesus’ statement in John 14:6-7 is one of the most profound and important in all of Scripture. It reveals the essence of who Jesus is and what he came to do, and it calls us to follow him with all our hearts. May we all take these words to heart, and may they inspire us to live lives that are true, meaningful, and full of the life that comes from knowing God through Jesus.
