FAITH IN ACTION| YOUR FREE BIBLE DEVOTIONAL FOR THURSDAY Brandy N. Morrison, June 15, 2023November 18, 2023 “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.” MARK 6:34 (KJV) DEVOTIONAL When Jesus saw the large crowd, he had compassion on them. This is a profound statement that speaks volumes about the nature of Jesus and his heart for people. The people were like sheep without a shepherd. They were lost, confused, and in need of guidance. Jesus saw their need and responded with compassion. Compassion is a powerful force that moves people to action. It is the ability to feel the pain and suffering of others and respond with kindness and empathy. Jesus was not indifferent to the suffering of the people. He felt their pain, and he was moved to do something about it. Jesus began teaching them many things. He provided them with guidance, direction, and wisdom. He taught them about the kingdom of God, the nature of God, and how to live a life that pleases God. He gave them hope and a sense of purpose. He showed them that they were not forgotten, but loved by God. As followers of Jesus, we are called to have compassion for others. We are called to feel the pain and suffering of others and respond with kindness and empathy. We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a hurting world. Compassion is not just a feeling, but an action. It requires us to step out of our comfort zones and reach out to those in need. It requires us to love our neighbor as ourselves. It requires us to be selfless and sacrificial. Jesus’ compassion for the people was not just a one-time event. It was a way of life for him. He spent his life serving others, healing the sick, and feeding the hungry. He showed us what it means to live a life of compassion. Compassion is not always easy. It requires us to face the pain and suffering of others. It requires us to step out of our own comfort zones and put the needs of others before our own. But it is worth it. When we show compassion to others, we are reflecting the heart of Jesus. In our busy lives, it is easy to become indifferent to the suffering of others. We can become so focused on our own needs and desires that we forget about the needs of those around us. But Jesus calls us to a different way of life. He calls us to have compassion for others. So, let us be a people of compassion. Let us feel the pain and suffering of others and respond with kindness and empathy. Let us be the hands and feet of Jesus in a hurting world. And let us never forget that when we show compassion to others, we are reflecting the heart of Jesus.
