FAITH IN ACTION| YOUR FREE BIBLE DEVOTIONAL Brandy N. Morrison, July 16, 2023November 18, 2023 The people served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel. Judges 2:7 THE FAITHFUL LEADERSHIP OF JOSHUA Joshua was a man of unwavering faith and obedience. He had witnessed the miracles performed by God during the Exodus and served as Moses’ assistant. When Moses passed away, it was Joshua whom God appointed to lead the Israelites. Throughout his lifetime, Joshua demonstrated great courage and trust in the Lord. He led the people in conquering the Promised Land, dividing it among the twelve tribes, and ensuring their obedience to God’s commands. Joshua’s leadership was marked by his unwavering commitment to God’s law. He reminded the people of the importance of obeying God’s commandments and not turning away from Him. Joshua’s faithfulness inspired the people to serve the Lord wholeheartedly, leading to a time of peace and prosperity in Israel. THE WITNESS OF THE ELDERS The elders who outlived Joshua played a crucial role in preserving the legacy of faith. These were the men who had witnessed firsthand the great miracles performed by God. They had seen the parting of the Red Sea, the manna from heaven, and the walls of Jericho crumbling at the sound of trumpets. Their faith had been strengthened through these extraordinary experiences, and they were determined to pass on this faith to the next generation. The elders understood the importance of remembering God’s faithfulness. They knew that forgetting His mighty acts led to complacency and idolatry. They shared their testimonies with the younger generation, reminding them of God’s power and His covenant promises. Their stories served as a constant reminder of the need to serve the Lord with all their hearts. SERVING THE LORD: A LIFETIME COMMITMENT The people served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and the elders who outlived him. Their commitment to serving God was not a temporary or conditional one; it was a lifelong dedication. Serving the Lord was not just a task or duty but a way of life for them. The people’s service to the Lord was characterized by obedience, worship, and devotion. They followed God’s commands, observed His appointed feasts and sacrifices, and worshipped Him with reverence and awe. Their service was not limited to religious rituals but extended to every aspect of their lives. They sought to honor God in their relationships, work, and decision-making. Their service was also marked by a deep trust in God’s provision and guidance. They recognized that their victories and blessings were not a result of their own strength or wisdom but a direct result of God’s faithfulness. This understanding fueled their commitment to serve Him faithfully and wholeheartedly. Moreover, the people’s service to the Lord was not motivated by personal gain or selfish desires. They served out of gratitude for all that God had done for them. They recognized that their deliverance from slavery, their journey through the wilderness, and their conquest of the Promised Land were all acts of God’s grace and mercy. Their service was a response to His love and faithfulness. When we take the time to deeply contemplate the profound importance of remembering and acknowledging God’s unwavering faithfulness, it becomes abundantly clear that we are not only tasked with the responsibility of recalling these moments, but also with the active duty of openly and fervently sharing our personal testimonies of His immeasurable goodness and boundless grace. It is through the act of sharing these stories, filled with intricate details and heartfelt emotions, that we are able to paint a vivid picture of the countless ways in which God has touched our lives and transformed our hearts. By expanding upon our experiences and delving into the specific instances where His faithfulness shone through, we are able to inspire and uplift others, reminding them of the incredible power and love that God bestows upon us all. Moreover, it is imperative that we dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to the service of the Lord, just as Joshua and the esteemed elders did in their time. By committing our lives to faithfully serving Him, we place our unwavering trust in His divine provision, knowing that He will abundantly provide for our every need. Furthermore, it is our duty to impart His boundless love to the forthcoming generation, ensuring that they too experience the transformative power of His love and mercy.
